Bellingham Public Schools will host the second annual Back-to-School Block Party, a resource fair for all district families, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Bellingham High School, 2020 Cornwall Avenue.
The event will include signups for Operation School Bell, a program of the Assistance League of Bellingham that supplies new school clothes. There will also be free books and backpacks and haircuts at no cost. Complimentary food trucks will be on-site. Attendees who fill out the event pass and exit survey will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card.
New this year
Each school will host a table along with 25 district and community partners to provide important resources for starting the school year.
Sports physicals and dental appointments
Health care providers will be at the block party scheduling dental and sports physical appointments, with a limited number of same-day appointments. If your child is a Unity Care patient in need of a sports physical, you may sign up online for an Aug. 20 appointment; sign-up closes at noon on Aug. 19. If you get medical care at PeaceHealth, Family Care Network or Sea Mar, please do not use this sign-up link. Those agencies will be at the Block Party connecting families with limited same-day slots and appointments for the week of Aug. 22.?
Immunizations
Childhood vaccines will also be available, as well as COVID-19 vaccines for anyone 6 months old and above (Moderna and Pfizer). These services are being offered at no cost to families. Please bring your health insurance card if you have one and any records of previous vaccinations. Please sign up here by noon on Tuesday, Aug. 16 to let us know your interest in childhood immunizations and to ensure we have needed vaccines on hand. Walk-ups will be accepted and health insurance is not required.
If you can’t attend the block party and are looking for COVID vaccinations for your child before the school year, the Whatcom County Health Department (WCHD) is holding a clinic in Bellingham for 6 months old and above on Saturday, August 13. Insurance is not required and a $50 gift card will be provided to everyone who gets their first or second dose. Check out the WCHD vaccine clinic webpage for more information.
Special thanks!
